SEVILLE RECREATION ASSOCIATION (SRA)
SPORTS COURT – Pickleball/Tennis
Updated 8/1/23
SRA amenities include a sports court originally built and striped for Tennis. Some years ago, striping was added for four Pickleball courts. Pickleball participation has grown an average of 158.6% over the last 3 years according to the SFIA. More than 36.5 million people played pickleball from August 2021 to August 2022, according to a report by the Association of Pickleball Professionals. Pickleball is gaining popularity because it's easy to play, low impact and appeals to a wide range of people, from kids to senior citizens. Most people who have played racquet sports learn pickleball easily. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, Ping-Pong, badminton and racquetball. It is great exercise for many people. It does require balance and some ability to move from side to side and is easier than it may appear.
The courts have been used extensively by Pickleball players. There are presently two groups that have organized play.
Pickleball Lite is a group of beginner to intermediate (3.0 and under) players that enjoy a soft game play and on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. If you would like more information, please call or text Connie Bright at 720.484.0335 or email her at Connie.Bright@comscast.net.
A group of advanced (3.5+) players that like to play a faster game play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. If you would like more information, please email spry_ron@hotmail.com or call him at 303.695.6449 (no texts).
The advanced group plays year-round however the Pickleball Lite group generally only plays Spring, Summer, and Fall. Start times vary from 9 am to noon depending on the time of year.
We have nets for the four pickleball courts, and all can be used simultaneously. The only time all courts have been used at once is during weeks of weather when both groups play on the same day. There is nearly always an additional court available for anyone who wants to play.
We do not presently have any volunteers to provide lessons or to organize groups at other levels of play here at Seville, but the Board would love to see our SRA residents use our pickleball facilities. There are another four pickleball courts (soon to be 8 courts) at the Heather Gardens clubhouse where all four nets are used seven days a week year-round when the weather cooperates, one or two courts when the weather is bad. For players new to racquet sports, most all area recreation centers have large indoor groups and lessons for those wanting to try it out. The HGA group does assist new players to the game and even has clinics and lessons. See HGPickle.org or our Heather n Yon for more details.
If you are an SRA resident and do not have a key for the pool or sports court, you can purchase each from the SRA Treasurer.
Also note that the lockbox (same key as gate) on the sports court has a Bocce Ball set and a few other assorted items that are available for all to use.
